Overseas Students’ Scholarship at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law

With the aim of attracting outstanding students from the world, increasing the number and improving the quality of international students, increase our capacity for international operation and the level of internationalization, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law shall establish the overseas students’ scholarship.

Chapter I: Details of Scholarship

I. Types of Recipients: The overseas students’ scholarship shall support outstanding international students to apply for Bachelor, Master and Doctor’s degrees at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law.

II. Supported Programs: Students may choose a program of study from nine categories: economics, law, management, philosophy, literature, history, science, technology and art, subject to the program list from students guide released in the same year.

III. Terms of Scholarship: The following list shows the terms of study and terms supported by scholarship:

IV. Amount and Requirements of Scholarship:

If a recipient of scholarship shall have demands for experiments or practice works outside of the school’s education plan, the student shall assume the costs of said extracurricular activities.

● Free boarding (standard double room in international student dormitory): at cost standard of RMB 750 Yuan/month;

● Scholarship living allowance: at the standard amount of RMB 2,500 Yuan/month; scholarship-supported students who have arrived and registered at school prior to the 15th day of the month (including the 15th day) shall receive the living allowance for the full month; students who have registered after the 15th day shall receive living allowance for half a month.

● Life safety insurance for overseas students: RMB 800 Yuan/year.

2. Partial amount scholarship

Chapter II: Application Process

V. Method and Time

The applicant shall apply for the overseas student scholarship at International Education School, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law directly, and provide the specified application documents during the period from March 1 to May 31 of each year.

VI. Basic Criteria of Applicant

1. The applicant shall be a foreign citizen holding a regular foreign passport, with proper character, be friendly to China, and have no criminal record.

2. Students applying for the scholarship with the purpose of Bachelor’s degree shall be qualified for HSK Level 4 and above in Chinese language skills, and have good performance in middle school.

3. Students applying for the scholarship with the purpose of graduate studies in a program taught in Chinese shall be qualified for HSK Level 4 and above in Chinese language skills, and have good performance in university, with a GPA of 3.0 and above.

4. Students applying for the scholarship with the purpose of graduate studies in a program taught in English shall be qualified for IELTS 6 or above, or TOFEL 80 or above, and have good performance in university, with a GPA of 3.0 and above. Students whose native language is English shall not be required to provide IELTS or TOFEL grades.

VII. Required documents for applying online

2. Certificates for the student’s highest degree of education, academic transcripts, and photocopies of graduation certificates, all having passed notarization.

3. Plan for the student’s study in China, in no less than 200 Chinese characters for undergraduate programs, and no less than 1500 words or Chinese characters for graduate programs.

4. “Physical Examination Record for Foreigner”.

5. Applicant for undergraduate program shall provide a letter of introduction from the graduating middle school; applicant for graduate program shall provide letters of introduction from two professor or associate professor-level faculty members.

6. Student applying for program taught in Chinese shall provide certificate for HSK Level 4 or above; student applying for program taught in English shall provide certificate for IELTS results of 6.5 or above, with the exception of student whose native language is English.

7. Photocopies of the applicant’s passport and personal photo.

VIII. Admission and Enrollment

International Education School shall conduct a preliminary review of application materials, and provide qualified materials to the school’s Review Committee for Overseas Student Scholarship. The committee shall decide whether the student is qualified for scholarship, and the type of scholarship. International Education School shall generally notify the applicant of the review results prior to June 1 of each year.

International Education School shall generally send documents including the school’s “Letter of Admission”, “Visa Application for Study in China” (the JW202 Form), etc to the applicant who has been admitted for scholarship prior to July 15 of each year.

The admitted student shall apply for a student’s visa at the Chinese consulate or embassy with a valid regular passport, the school’s “Letter of Admission”, the JW202 Form, and the “Physical Examination Record for Foreigner”, travel to China with said documents, and register at the school in the proper period.


Chapter III Scholarship Qualification

IX. For the purpose of ensuring the management of the overseas scholarship and its effects and benefits, scholarship supported students must partake in semester qualifications for the scholarship. The semester qualifications refer to an overall review of the scholarship supported students each semester, in order to determine whether they are qualified for continuing or resuming the benefits of the overseas student scholarship.

X. The qualification consists of:

1. Review of academic performance, including the examination and review results of each course in the semester;

2. Attitudes towards learning, and attendance status;

3. Behavior, penalty and rewards.

XI. International Education School shall be responsible for organizing the semester qualifications, and determine whether the students are qualified for continuing or resuming the benefits of the overseas student scholarship, according to the criteria and procedure of the qualifications. The results of qualification shall be either “qualified” or “disqualified”, and decisions shall be made regarding whether the scholarship shall be continued, terminated or revoked.

XII. Students in the following cases shall have their scholarship terminated for one semester:

1. Student has failed to pass an examination or the qualification;

2. Student has received a penalty such as a severe warning, a demerit, or detention.

Student whose scholarship has been terminated shall stop to receive the scholarship starting next semester. The student may apply for continuing the studies at the school at own cost or reduced cost. Prior to the end of the termination period, the student may apply for the qualification of the semester, and resume the scholarship starting next semester if passed.

XIII. Scholarship shall be revoked for students in the following cases:

1. Student has received penalty for forced dismissal or expulsion;

2. Student has failed to pass semester qualification for two cumulative years;

3. Student has failed to participate in semester qualification without a proper cause.

Student whose scholarship has been revoked shall stop receiving the scholarship starting the date of the decision’s publication, and the scholarship shall not be resumed.

XIV. The qualification for each semester shall follow the process below:

1. The scholarship supported student must receive and fill in the “Semester Qualification Form for Zhongnan University of Economics and Law Overseas Student Scholarship” (“Assessment Form”) factually according to conditions set out by the school, and submit the form to International Education School before the specified date.

2. International Education School shall fill in the Qualification Form with comments and advice according to the criteria of qualification, and notify the student of the decision regarding the student’s qualification.


Chapter IV Supplementary Provisions

XV. International Education School shall be responsible for the interpretation of this method.

XVI. This method is effective starting from the date of publication.
